Close on the heels of the India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki announcing a price increase across its model range, Hyundai Motor India also joined the price hike race by enhancing prices of its models by up to INR 20,000 (about $300).

Though the extent of the hike is similar to that of Maruti Suzuki, the revised price tags of Hyundai Motor range will come into effect from August 16. However, Maruti Suzuki had gone for the hike with immediate effect on August 1.

Hyundai Motor India said the price increase would range from INR 3,000($45) to INR 20,000 ($300) and would spread from its small car Hyundai Eon to the flagship SUV Hyundai Santa Fe.

Rakesh Srivastava, Sr Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor, has attributed the hike to the rupee depreciation and rise in the cost of raw materials. “We have been absorbing most of the costs but now we are compelled to consider the price increase,” he claims.
