Maruti Suzuki cars now cost more

Maruti Suzuki, the India’s largest carmaker, has increased prices of its various models by up to INR 20,000 ($300).  

The increase in price for the newly-launched compact SUV Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will be INR 20,000 ($300) while that of new premium hatchback Maruti Suzuki Baleno is INR 10,000 ($150). On a select range of other models, the price hike will be between INR 1,500 ($24) and INR 5,000 ($75). The hike is effective from Monday (August 1, 2016).

On reasons for the hike, Maruti Suzuki: “This price revision is based on factors like, segment-wise demand, forex movements and strategic objectives of the company”. The company sells a range of models starting from hatchback Alto 800 to premium crossover S-Cross, priced INR 2.45 lakh ($3,670) to INR 12.03 lakh ($18,000; ex-showroom Delhi).
